At a glance

Conditions for inclusion

An accepted extended abstract will be eligible for inclusion in the proceedings when all of the following conditions are met:

• the abstract has been accepted through the MESD'26 peer-review process;
• the authors submit the final revised version by the announced deadline;
• the final version complies with the conference formatting and publication instructions;
• all authors approve the submitted text, author order and institutional affiliations;
• at least one author registers for MESD'26 and presents the contribution at the conference; and
• the corresponding author grants MESD permission to publish and archive the extended abstract.

The final proceedings are intended to reflect the scientific programme actually delivered at MESD'26. Contributions withdrawn before publication, not presented without an accepted exceptional reason, or affected by an unresolved integrity concern may be omitted.

Publication workflow

Information included with each contribution

To support accurate attribution and discoverability, each published extended abstract should include:

• the final title of the contribution;
• the names of all authors in the agreed order;
• institutional affiliations and countries;
• ORCID iDs, where supplied by the authors;
• the corresponding author's email address only where explicit consent to publication has been given;
• the selected conference track and keywords;
• the final extended-abstract text and references; and
• a page range or electronic location identifier and a recommended citation.

Proceedings-level bibliographic information

The published volume will clearly identify the conference title and acronym, broad scope, 2026 thematic focus, dates, location, editors, publisher, publication date and stable online location. Any ISBN, DOI or other persistent identifier will be displayed only after it has been formally assigned.

Copyright, permissions and reuse

• Authors retain responsibility for the originality and accuracy of their contribution.
• Unless a different publication agreement is announced, authors will retain copyright and grant MESD a non-exclusive right to publish, distribute and preserve the accepted extended abstract.
• Authors must obtain permission for any copyrighted figure, table, image, questionnaire or substantial third-party material that is not covered by an applicable exception.
• Any Creative Commons or other reuse licence adopted for the volume will be stated explicitly. No reuse licence should be assumed until it is displayed in the publication.

Authorship and research integrity

• All listed authors must have made an appropriate contribution and approved the final version.
• Changes to authorship after acceptance require a written explanation and the agreement of all affected authors.
• Authors must disclose closely related or overlapping publications and must cite relevant earlier versions of the work.
• Research involving human participants, confidential data or other regulated material must have the appropriate approval or consent where required.
• Suspected plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, inappropriate authorship or other serious concerns may lead to investigation, exclusion from the proceedings, correction, withdrawal or retraction.

Corrections, withdrawals and record maintenance

Before publication, the corresponding author may request withdrawal with the agreement of all authors. After publication, minor production errors may be corrected directly, while changes affecting interpretation, attribution or the scholarly record will be accompanied by a dated correction notice. A published contribution may be withdrawn or retracted when necessary to protect the integrity of the record, and the public record will explain the nature of the action.

Developing the work after MESD'26

Publication of a 1,500-word extended abstract is not the same as publication of a full research article. Authors may subsequently develop the work into a substantially fuller journal article, book chapter or other publication. They should disclose the MESD'26 extended abstract to the prospective publisher, cite it where appropriate and follow that publisher's policies on prior dissemination and text overlap.

What remains to be confirmed

The editorial team will publish the final template, submission deadline for revised abstracts, editors, publication date, copyright permission form, licence, ISBN and DOI arrangements when these decisions have been formally approved.
